Simply put, renewable energy is the energy we use that comes from natural resources. These resources are replenished naturally making them ideal for energy consumption considering the massive amounts of energy consumed on a daily basis.
Biomass: Biomass is made of fully organic material like plant and animal matter. Wood, garbage and manure are all examples of this type of energy. It is considered renewable because trees and plants can always be regrown. When you burn wood it releases heat; this is considered biomass energy.
Hydropower: Hydropower energy production is very popular and has been around for some time. The swifter the water moves the more energy it produces. A primitive example would be the old water mills that were used to ground grain in grain mills.
Geothermal: Geothermal energy is generated in the core of the Earth. Rocks go through constant radioactive decay so the energy supply is endless. People have figured out how to harvest this great source of energy by digging wells in to the deep pockets of heated water in the Earth’s crust and then using this water to heat their homes.
Wind: Wind power is a more common type of renewable energy. Most states have wind turbines set up to harness this great source. Wind is produced when the Earth is heated in different degrees by the sun. Blades turn turbines which are connected to electricity generators.
The few examples of renewable energy sources listed here are not the only ways we are able to gather renewable energy. In fact, scientists are working every day to discover new sources and ways we can harvest those sources. The possibilities are almost endless!
