A Short Review Of The Japanese Film Tetsuo The Iron Man

Tetsuo Iron Man was the debut feature from the unpredictable Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto. It’s a foreign film, but it’s not THAT kind of foreign film. As in, don’t think you’re going to be sitting there reading subtitles. There’s really very little dialog in the film, and what’s there isn’t usually important. It plays something like a silent film, so definitely put it in your queue the next time you log into your movie download service, whether or not you’re usually a fan of Japanese cinema.

The movie follows a typical Japanese salary man who, for no reason at all, starts to sprout pieces of scrap metal from his body. It starts when he’s shaving and pieces of… Aluminum cans or something start growing from his face. It’s very strange. Eventually, he grows into a living, breathing heap of junk metal, and it winds up being a great example of Cronenberg’s body horror genre.

Tsukamoto made the film around the idea of a monster flick with a human sized monster. So imagine Godzilla if Godzilla were only five foot eight. It’s not exactly like that, but it’s very similar. The film has two monsters doing battle: The salary man after his transformation, and Tetsuo, played by Shinya Tsukamoto himself. Both do battle as these metallic monsters, having a final show down in a junkyard on the outskirts of Tokyo.

The movie really helped to define Japanese cyberpunk. There had been earlier efforts in the genre such as Burst City, but this one was the one that really defined the genre as being about industrialism and the Frankenstein-esque relations between man and machine. Where American cyberpunk tends to focus on the computer age, Japanese cyberpunk is more about antiquated machinery and post WWII fear.

The movie is fast paced, sort of confusing, but ultimately, it really works well as a sort of horror movie slash action flick. It has an incredible nightmarish look to it, utilizing stop motion special effects, cheap props and costume that look more real because they’re not makeup. They actually glued pieces of metal to the actors faces in order to get the look they were going for.

The movie primarily draws influence from Eraserhead and Cronenberg’s Videodrome. A warning, if those movies made you squeamish, this one will, too.

Tsukamoto went on to create some of the greatest films ever to come from Japan, including Tokyo Fist, which is one of the greatest films ever made on the subject of the male ego. It’s about what happens when two men who are at odds with one another absolutely refuse to back down no matter what, and how far conflict can go when it’s not put in check.

Tsukamoto is also an interesting actor, doing some bit parts for various Takashi Miike films. He also has another Tetsuo movie coming out, Tetsuo: Bulletman. It’s clear that, while he’s already been making movies for twenty years, he is nevertheless just now warming up.

Another disadvantage is often your own music creativity is limited. Movie This is an excellent way of ensuring that you excel in the music business. On its release the movie drew mixed critical reactions, partly due to its violent nature.

A Full Synopsis Of The Film The Departed

The departed is a two thousand six released crime drama and action flick that revolves around the Irish American cartels. The movie is a complex crux of two men who play double agents for their respective bosses; the police and the mafia.

The film plot is very strong and is circling around the concept of human betrayal, greed and intimacy feelings all conjugated under the fight of the law with lawlessness. Normally most of us witness brilliant police officers joining the crime ranks in order to spy on the lawless mongers but this time these mongers prepare a great defense in shape of their spy within the law agency troops.

Young Billy is a fresh Police graduate and his connection with the Irish underworld in the US makes him one of the best candidates to spy on the mafia. He quickly gains trust of the mafia heads and lands in the middle of all the criminal action planning and doings and hence proves to be a vital factor is sabotaging most of them.

While Billy is busy in spying on the Mafia, Collin Sullivan is the mafia installed spy in the law enforcing agency. Like Billy, Collin also is sharp and moves quickly up the police ranks to become a respectable special investigation unit officer. This unit is the actual operative one against the Irish American cartels receiving tips from Billy. Collins unique character of double playing the police as well as the mafia is perhaps the only thing that makes this movie stand out of the normal gangster type ones.

Later on in the movie, it becomes clear to both the bad guys and the good guys that they have some leaking point in their respective gangs and groups. The two double crossing agents find themselves in desperate struggle to uncover the other moles identity in order to prove themselves as innocent. Now this is the point that the film gets really interesting and gains the action and thrilling momentum in which both these double agents are on the verge of jeopardizing with their mates and fellows in their respective gangs.

The last half of the movie is something worth looking forward too. Although it might not be on the most action filled thrillers but the intensity and depth of the drama is absolutely worth watching. In these scenes Billy and Collin move toward a head to head collision based on the Collins discovery that Billy is actually working for the cops and is about to turn the whole gang in.

Billy is seen going after Collin in order to convince him to leave the gang and use his immunity in order to get a normal life back. This argument and trail ends up with Billy getting shot at by Collin which results in his death.

The departed is a classic action and drama flick that focuses yet again on making truth, honesty, and good deeds as the final winner. There are a lot of moments within this movie that can make you grasp your breath due to the suspense and drama. All in all, it is one of the best flicks ever when we talk about two thousand six releases.

Mel Gibson In The Hit Film Mad Max Two

Mad Max 2, also known as the Road Warrior, is simply put, one of the greatest action films ever created. It might even be one of the greatest films of all time, period, depending on your perspective. It is, at the very least, one of the most well crafted films in existence, one of the most well told, with clarity and coherence even amidst all the chaos the story provides. This is the one that made Mel Gibson a household name, and certainly one of the must download movies of all time.

There aren’t many movies that work so well as action movies while being one of those films you might consider to be one of the greatest ever made. However, the film is just so incredibly strong on so many levels that you have to recognize how good it is as a film regardless of whether or not you’re usually a big fan of action flicks.

If you haven’t seen it, and somehow have no idea what it’s about: Mad Max Rockatansky is a former cop wandering a wasted outback in Australia. Food and water have become scarce after World War III, as has gasoline. Max is trying to find enough resources just to keep himself alive from day to day as he wanders across the wasteland.

Throughout his trials in the previous film, Max became just as much of a ruthless beast as the criminals he’d been chasing. Here, he’s offered a chance at redemption, at becoming a part of society, or what is left of it, once more.

The movie is really just one big chase scene, only stopping here and there just long enough to give the audience a moment to catch their breath. While a lesser movie might have been made boring by all this action, in The Road Warrior, the action and the story are one and the same. Character and plot are both developed through action, not like the modern action flick where the fights and chases only get in the way of the story.

In the end the movie is really a statement on heroism, delving into Joseph Campbellian mythological structure and coming up with what many Australians consider to be “Star Wars Down Under”. It’s certainly one of the most successful films to ever come out of that country, and is still considered a national treasure of the Australian cinema all these decades later.

The movie is, really, a classic western in a new setting. It belongs on the same shelf as Stagecoach as one of the all time great examples of how the classic John Ford and Howard Hawks westerns developed their own stories.

The movie is loud, fast and aggressive, full of insane characters and crazy stunts (several stuntmen almost died, in fact). It may well be one of the greatest films ever made for storytelling and craftsmanship, and if not, it’s certainly one of the all time great action films, and certainly worth a watch whether or not you’re usually an action fan. It’s definitely one to see before you die, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you want to ASAP.

Martin Scorsese’s Gritty Movie Taxi Driver

Scorsese is always considered the greatest living filmmaker. Whether or not you agree, even his critics consider him one of the greatest that’s ever lived. Even when doing some fairly standard genre biopic material with the Aviator or remakes like The Departed and Cape Fear, he still manages to put a personal touch on the material and create the sort of film, like Taxi Driver, that simply pulls you directly into its world.

Not many directors are really as capable as Scorsese when it comes to being able to drag you into a fictional world, to build a whole atmosphere around you. You feel like you’re sitting shotgun in Travis Bickle’s cab right beside him. It almost feels like a documentary for its sheer realism. It is as close as you can get to “found footage” without some gimmick like having one of the characters hold the camera.

The film is part of an unofficial trilogy of sorts with The Searchers and Paris, Texas. Both Scorsese’s film and Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas are loose remakes of John Ford’s The Searchers, and both of the main characters of the latter films, both named Travis, are loosely cast as John Wayne types. The whole trilogy works as an example of just how many different ways there are to tell a single story.

Where The Searchers is primarily an adventure film revolving around themes of prejudice and loneliness, where Wim Wenders chose to make a real, but sweet-hearted film about the reuniting of a family, Scorsese opts to highlight the darker aspects of the story, the sheer lonesomeness of the hero, the outsider. In all three stories, the lead takes it upon himself to do something he sees as heroic. In all three, the real morality of what he does is questionable, and in all three, the hero retreats from those he’s saved at the end, always trying to find validation in heroics, but never able to join in.

In each film, a real statement on loneliness is made. This is what helps the heroes of these films to be so easy to relate to, even as they do things that most of us would never be proud of having done. Even Travis Bickle, who commits so many acts of grisly violence, is such a human and endearing character in spite of his mental illness, because we know what it is to be that desperate for validation.

At one point or other, everyone has been in Travis Bickle’s shoes. Most of us work it out with less extreme measures, but we’ve all known what it’s like to be surrounded by so many people and still feel so isolated. We know exactly where Travis has been and while that doesn’t forgive his crimes, we do understand him.

What many people don’t talk about in regards to this film really is that there’s a part of you that roots for Travis, even as he commits serious acts of violence at the end. We wish that we could cast the film as a simple cowboys and Indians tale of right and wrong. The tragedy is that it’s just not that simple.

While the film serves as part of a trilogy to The Searchers and Paris, Texas, it’s also something of a companion piece to First Blood, another film about a lonely Vietnam veteran who uses violence as a means of personal validation.
