It’s never too early to start planning for your summer vacation, right? Especially when you look out of the window, see grey skies and find yourself distracted by dreams of sunshine. So what should you take with you on your summer break? One item that’s really important is your sunglasses. They’re only small, so easily forgotten but, at the same time, easy to stash away in your luggage. Go for a big pair that will protect your eyes from the glare as well as the sun.

Another key thing to make sure you have in your luggage is a decent selection of T-shirts, or tees. These will be useful for all aspects of your trip. Stay cool in loose, breathable fabrics such as cotton and use them to cover up on the beach if you’ve had a bit too much sun. They’re also great for trips to bars and restaurants and, if you take a selection of colors, you’ll be able to mix and match your outfits for the duration of your vacation.

Another great item for any summer vacation is a couple of pairs of board shorts. These are great because they generally come in loose fabric that will easily fold up small to fit in your luggage. They can also double up as bathing shorts if you don’t want to take both. Wear them on the beach for a cool, easy look or wear them on a day trip to explore a new culture. They look especially good in a slightly longer length ending at your knee.

You need to make sure to take a couple of pairs of shoes with you on vacation, too. Don’t go overboard or they won’t fit in your luggage! Flip flops are great for casual exploring or for lounging around on the beach, plus they’re cheap and don’t take up much space, making them a great buy. A pair of sturdy sandals is also a good idea on vacation as they’re breathable and cool but sturdy enough that you’ll be able to walk around in them if you need to.

One final thing that should always make it into your vacation suitcase is a long-sleeve casual shirt or two. Pale colors such as white or light blue are really good as they’ll help keep you cool despite the long sleeves by reflecting the light of the sun. This is particularly good for fair-skinned people as the shirt will provide a good cover for your shoulders as well as looking fantastic if you find yourself going out for a formal meal as part of your vacation.

Separating the Gold from the Dirt

In the past gold was believed to be a combination of sunlight and water as it shone brilliantly and was commonly found near water. From the ancient civilizations like Egypt and the cities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, gold has been used as a symbol for prosperity. Gold mining is the process of extracting gold from the ground. There are many different techniques and methods for mining gold.

Some of the techniques are gold panning, dredging, sluicing etc. One method that was used in the past was the cradle method developed by Isaac Humphrey. In this method a wooden box with a handle on the side and a ridged bottom is used. The bottom is lined with Hessian cloth. The deposit is put inside the cradle where it is rocked violently with water from a creek. The finer particles go through the screen and any useless residue was discarded. This method allowed a lot of gravel to be examined and so was considered to be a better method than the gold panning method. These methods were however not suitable for commercial purposes.

Today open cut mining and underground gold mining is used. The mine is excavated as a series of layers called benches in open cut mining. Trucks and other large vehicles needed for mining purposes could easily travel through the benches to help the miners with drilling and ore sampling. The useless rocks that come through the sifting process are then removed by transport vehicles. Explosives like ammonium nitrate are used to break the rock as they effectively do the job with minimum damage to nearby areas.

Underground mining is the process of mining gold from under the ground. It is an expensive and dangerous process. Here a shaft will be sunk into the ground at about 1000 meters deep. Then horizontal tunnels are dug through which the miners access the gold. As the mines go deeper and deeper the more dangerous it becomes as the risk of cave-ins increase exponentially. Even though underground mining utilizes strict safety protocols like providing strong support for the walls and ceiling and using machines to provide sufficient ventilation and lighting for the miners, the risk of collapse is always imminent.
