Yes what colors you have on your walls or in your rooms will directly affect how you feel. It’s been proven in many studies that have been completed. So if you want to change the feeling of a room, change the color and the dcor. But don’t overdo the choices that you make, sometimes too much will hurt instead of help.
For those rooms where you want to be able to relax and be calm in, stick with some light colored pastel choices. Yes you can repaint your walls, or just one wall to help take care of that anxiety that you might feel after a long day of work. One of the best rooms to try this in is the bedroom. Some great choices for color are a baby blue or even a light pastel pink.
For a room to have energy though you shouldn’t paint it all in red, maybe add in a few red items to the room, or paint only one wall. This color is shown to bring out passion in people, but if there is too much of the color in the room, it may actually make you feel more aggressive than romantic. So don’t get the brush out yet and paint all your bedroom walls red.
A room where you have guests at will be nicely done in a light yellow. This color will make the mood seem light and exciting. You really need to be careful when using any yellows though, if you pick one that is too bright the room will become a bit overwhelming instead of relaxing and fun.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match different colors in the decor; that’s acceptable as long as there’s a neutral base color that will pull everything together. A solid neutral colored area rug is a great way to do this because it has a considerable size to it, yet is interesting as a standalone item. It sets off bright – and any other, for that matter – color in the space. At the same time, don’t get too excited with your color options; keep the number of colors in the room to two at the very maximum.
If you haven’t added too much color to the walls, or you feel that is too big of a jump. You can add in some different colors with a nice area rug. They come in many colors, and in a bland room can add in just enough color to make the room go from boring to better than boring. Make sure the rug works to tie the overall look of the room together.
If you can’t find any color that suits your tastes, you may want to give white a try. Monochrome is a very safe choice because it can work for virtually any room, mood or purpose. Keep things from getting too boring by mixing up different shapes, finishes and textures. With the right combination, you can use extremely few colors to create an effect that’s no less dramatic.
